Some of Evoke's most powerful features reveal themselves when you start to dig a little deeper. Deep within the effect are a few creative tricks that can completely change how you approach vocal sound design.
In this post, we’re highlighting six videos that push Evoke beyond the obvious.
Modulating Level
Sometimes the smallest movement brings a sound to life. By assigning modulation to Level, you can introduce subtle dynamics that react to your performance — adding motion, pulse, and organic variation to each voice.
Envelope Follow Rate Control
Follow can turn your vocal’s dynamics into motion. By routing it to parameters like Rate, the modulation reacts directly to your input — creating movement that speeds up or slows down based on your performance.
Create a Sequenced Melody
You can use Evoke’s modulation system to draw melodies directly from your vocal. In this setup, a Curve Modulator is sequenced and assigned to the Interval of Voice One to create a simple melodic phrase. A second curve harmonizes with it, and a few extra voices fill out the texture.
The result is a polyphonic melodic phrase that harmonizes with the original vocal.
Futuristic Follow Freezing
By linking Freeze to your vocal’s dynamics via the Follow mod, you can create rhythmic, input-driven textures that pulse with the performance. The voice effectively controls its own resynthesis — freezing and unfreezing in time with its amplitude to form a futuristic, reactive layer.
Sci Fi Transformer Vocal FX
Using Character Modes and formant shaping, you can push a voice into heavy, transformer-like territory.
Start with one of the Textural Character Modes to give the voice a synthetic edge, then boost the lows for that cinematic, sub-heavy feel. Drop the Formant to add depth and presence, and layer in a few futuristic effects for movement and detail.
The combination turns a vocal phrase into something mechanical and alive.
Panning Voices for Wide Harmony
This technique takes inspiration from Bon Iver’s “715 – CRΣΣKS.”
Using the Pitch Track mode, Evoke automatically follows the source vocal’s melody — letting you build rich, melodic harmonies without any complex routing. Assign a Macro to pan each voice in opposite directions to create width, then mix up Character Modes, tweak timbral controls, and add effects for tonal variation.
The result is a wide, expressive harmony bed that feels organic yet otherworldly, a modern take on the stacked vocal sound.
Evoke rewards curiosity. The deeper you explore, the more it reveals. Try out these techniques, experiment freely, and see where your creativity takes you!
